Russian Arms Loan Eyed

February 10 2010

Sri Lanka

Moscow has offered the Sri Lankan government a US$300 million loan for the purchase of Russian military equipment, reports Interfax-AVN (Russia).

The two nations have been discussing a potential purchase of Mi-17 choppers for some time, but financial problems have delayed finalizing a deal.

A new contract for up to 30 Mi-17s could be signed in the next two to three months, according to an unnamed military source.
