Rouhani Aide Steps Down In Wake Of Leaked Foreign Minister Interview

A longtime aide to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has resigned in the aftermath of the leak to foreign media of a confidential interview with Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, reports the Al Monitor (Washington, D.C.).

Hesamoddin Ashena, who was the director of the Center for Strategic Research think tank affiliated with the office of the president, has been replaced by government spokesman Ali Rabiei.

It has been speculated that Ashena was sacked by Rouhani.
