Military officials say longtime rival militant organizations on both sides of the Afghanistan-Pakistan border have been teaming up against U.S. and allied troops, the New York Times reports.
The insurgent factions have been setting aside their historic grievances to behave like "a syndicate," according to U.S. intelligence assessments.
While the groups have shared ideology, until recently they had not planned raids together, said officials.
