Riot police broke up a demonstration on Saturday in the Algerian capital, reports Xinhua, China's state news agency.
At least eight police and civilians were injured in Algiers during a demonstration by the opposition party, said security officials.
Riot police armed with batons and shields were seen clashing with several hundred stone-throwing protesters.
Opposition leaders said more than 40 people were injured.
