Brazilian troops are being deployed to help "clean out" prisons following a wave of gang violence, reports the BBC.
About 1,000 troops were being sent to remove all arms, explosives and mobile phones from prisons across Brazil, said Defense Minister Raul Jungmann on Wednesday.
The soldiers "will only enter when the risk of rioting is minimal or nonexistent.... The armed forces are not going to confront these groups," he said.
