Pentagon scientists at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) are seeking an alternative to the GPS to guide munitions to a target.
The Chip-Scale Combinatorial Atomic Navigator (C-SCAN) effort seeks to combine solid state and atomic inertial sensors to measure orientation when GPS is unavailable, said an agency release soliciting input from industry.
GPS could be inaccessible because of a malfunction or enemy action, noted officials.
