Rescue Frees Officers Held By FARC For 12 Years

Colombian soldiers rescued three hostages Sunday from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), including police officers held since 1998, the New York Times reports.

About 300 military personnel were involved in a raid in Guaviare in southern Colombia, officials said.

Hostages rescued included police Gen. Luis Mendieta, the highest-ranking captive held by FARC, as well as Col. Luis Murillo and Sgt. Arbey Delgado, both captured in 1998.
