Taiwan has apparently decided to drop a request for U.S. military submarines in an attempt to warm relations with China, according to an unnamed defense source cited by Reuters.
American and Taiwanese defense officials began a study in 2008 on upgrading Taiwan's aging submarine fleet. Two of Taiwan's four submarines date to World War II.
