The Indian coast guard will activate a regional headquarters at Gandhinagar in Gujarat state on Oct. 3, reports the Times of India.
The new facility will be responsible for the state's 1,000-mile (1,600-km) coastline, including surveillance and security operations, officials said.
Inspector General S.P. Sharma has been named as the first regional commander.
