Record Defense Budget Eyes Amphibs, Numerous Aircraft

The Cabinet in Japan has approved the largest defense budget in 70 years, reports Russia's RT news channel.
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's Cabinet endorsed a 4.98 trillion yen (US$42 billion) defense budget on Wednesday. The budget covers April until March 2016.
The increase of 2 percent is the third boost since 2012.
The budget still requires the approval of lawmakers, though the prime minister's coalition has majorities in both houses.
