Syrian government forces and their allies gained ground in the country's west over the weekend, reports Al Jazeera (Qatar).
On Sunday, the army, backed by Russian air support and Iran-backed militias, took control of the town of Halfaya and nearby villages, said a military source.
The troops began their advance after rebels withdrew, said the U.K.-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
