Elite Syrian forces have regained control of a rebellious northern town near the border with Turkey, reports the New York Times, citing officials and local witnesses.
The loyalist units bombarded Jisr al-Shoughour and the surrounding areas for days before entering unchallenged on Sunday, said witnesses. Tanks, helicopter gunships and warplanes were reportedly used during the operation.
