Rearmament Campaign Includes Plans For 2 New Nuclear-Powered Subs

The state-owned United Shipbuilding Corp. has announced plans to develop two new types of nuclear-powered submarines for the Russian navy, reports the Moscow Times.

One will be classified as an "underwater interceptor" and the other as an "aircraft carrier killer," company officials told the Lenta.ru news website last week.

Russia is currently building new Borei- and Severodvinsk-class nuclear-powered submarines. However, both designs date to the early 1990s.
