The Italian air force is expected to receive the first two of six unarmed MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in July, Defense News reports, citing an Italian military source.
Delivery of the first two aircraft was originally scheduled for late 2009.
The two UAVs, plus ground stations and support equipment, will likely be flown by cargo aircraft directly from California to the Reapers' base in Puglia in southern Italy, a U.S. source said.
