A U.S. Air Force test of a new re-entry vehicle for nuclear warheads went awry when the carrier rocket exploded shortly after launch, reports the Air Force Times.
Late Wednesday night, the Minotaur II+ rocket carrying a Mk 21A re-entry vehicle exploded about 10 seconds after taking off from Vandenberg Space Force Base, Calif.
There were no injuries, and the debris was contained to the area around the launch pad, said the base.
