The British Royal Navy has commissioned its first of two new aircraft carriers, reports the U.K. Ministry of Defense.
Queen Elizabeth II presided over the ceremony on Thursday in Portsmouth, where HMS Queen Elizabeth entered service.
The carrier is wrapping up final build activities and preparing for helicopter trials in early 2018, noted the MoD. In the fall, she will sail to the United States for initial flight tests.
