The U.S. Marine Corps is taking steps that could place women in front-line combat roles, reports the New York Times.
Forty women will be assigned to 19 combat battalions of six different types --- artillery, tank, assault amphibian, combat engineer, combat assault and low-altitude air defense, said Commandant Gen. James Amos.
