Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced that his country is destroying its final stocks of chemical weapons, reports Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
On Wednesday, the president said that "the last chemical ammunition from Russian chemical weapons stockpiles" was then being destroyed. Putin made his comments during a video link with Russia's remaining chemical weapons storage facility in the central Udmurtia region. He called it an "historic event."
