Taiwan's navy hopes to buy four Perry-class frigates from the United States as part of a modernization effort, reports Agence France-Presse, citing local media accounts.
The Defense Ministry is earmarking funds for the purchase in next year's budget, United Daily News reported.
Another report suggested that only two frigates might be purchased.
