Officials from Somalia's semi-autonomous Puntland region say the first naval infantry personnel for the region's marine force have completed training, reports the Garowe Online (Somalia).
About 170 personnel completed the naval training, said Puntland officials.
The marine force is expected to consist of 1,050 personnel, who will be charged with protecting the region's coastal area from pirates and illegal fishermen, officials said.
