The Latvian government wants to expand its military youth program to 16,000 people by 2024, reports LSM, Latvia's public broadcaster.
More than 7,000 young people aged 10 to 21 are now part of the Jaunsardze, or Youth Guard, and a Defense Ministry plan anticipates it will grow to 9,500 by 2018 and 16,000 by 2024, according to Youth Guard Dept. officials cited by Latvian Radio last Thursday.
Funding for the military cadet body is also expected to increase by 5 million euros...
