The transitional government in Somalia has hired a private security group to develop the capacity to protect the nation's coastline, reports the Garowe Online (Somalia).
The Halliday Finch group, based in Nairobi, Kenya, will help the government train Somali troops to defend the coast against illegal dumping and piracy.
The ultimate goal is to create an independent coast guard capable of defending Somalia's shores on its own, officials said.
