The Islamic State (ISIS) is claiming responsibility for a prison break in Iraq on Friday.
About 40 prisoners were able to escape from the Al-Khalis prison, about 80 km (50 mi) northeast of Baghdad, on Saturday, said the Interior Ministry, as reported by Al Jazeera.
Nine escapees faced terrorism charges and included members of the Islamic State, reported the BBC.
At least 50 inmates and 12 police officers were killed during the prison break, said police officials.
