The government of Belarus says it will surrender its stockpile of highly enriched uranium by 2012, the New York Times reports.
The deal between Belarus and the U.S. was announced Wednesday at the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe summit in Astana, Kazakhstan.
Washington will give Belarus technical and financial aid to eliminate its remaining stock, said Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
