President Xi Jinping Meets with Senior DPRK Official Pak Thae-song in Beijing

On July 10, 2026, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Pak Thae-song, a senior North Korean official and Premier of the Cabinet, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. According to the Chinese Ministry of Defense, Pak's official visit coincided with the 65th anniversary of the Sino-North Korean Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation, and Mutual Assistance.

During the meeting, Xi highlighted the partnership between the two nations, by his recent state visit to North Korea where he and leader Kim Jong Un established new directives for their alliance. Xi emphasized that the historic treaty serves as a foundational political and legal pillar for their shared regional interests and mutual support.

Acting as Vice Chairman of the State Affairs Commission, Pak conveyed Pyongyang’s commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with Beijing. He reaffirmed that North Korea would steadily implement the consensus reached by both leaders and firmly back China's core interests on critical issues like Taiwan.
