President Names New Security Chief

President Felipe Calderon has appointed Alejandro Poira Romero as the new technical secretary of the Mexican National Security Council and National Security Cabinet, according to a release from the Mexican president's office.

Romero will also serve as the spokesman for security.

He replaces Jorge Tello Peon, who was named as the presidential adviser on security and a member of the National Security Cabinet.
