Kyrgyzstan—President Jeenbekov Steps Down Following Protests

Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov has resigned following weeks of contentious protests, reports the Aki Press (Bishkek). On Thursday, Jeenbekov tendered his resignation, effective immediately, saying "peace and unity" was more important than any political position, reported Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.  Executive authority was transferred to Prime Minister Sadyr Japarov, who was elected to the position on Wednesday.  Japarov has proposed running new presidential elections...
