President Eager To Finalize Missile Shield Agreement With U.S.

President Traian Basescu says he would like to conclude negotiations with the United States on plans to place elements of an American missile defense shield in Romania, Agence France-Presse reports.

President Barack Obama officially invited Romania last February to be part of the newly designed missile shield.

Under the plan, Romania would host SM-3-type medium-range ballistic missile interceptors, which should be operational by 2015.
