PM Reaffirms Promise To Refuse Foreign Military Bases

During a visit to Australia, Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare vowed not to allow foreign bases in the Solomon Islands, reports the Benar News (Washington, D.C.).

On Thursday, Sogavare met with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in Canberra in an effort to reduce tensions after the Solomon Islands signed a security agreement with China.

During the talks, Sogavare pledged not to allow Beijing or any other state to establish a permanent military presence on the islands....
