Plans Set For 4 New Ground Divisions, Says Top General

The Russian army is going to establish four new ground divisions this year as a response to an increase of NATO military exercises, says a Russian general cited by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

The formation of the units is "one of the measures to be taken in response to the intensified exercises of NATO countries that we have seen in recent times," said Col. Gen. Oleg Salyukov on Thursday.

He is the current commander-in-chief of the ground forces.
