Spain's defense minister said she will propose lifting the current self-imposed limit of Spanish troops that can be deployed overseas, Agence France-Presse reports.
Defense Minister Carme Chacon called the existing ceiling of 3,000 troops "obsolete," saying Spain has the logistical capabilities to deploy up to 7,700 soldiers, about 8 percent of its total.
She plans to ask the Cabinet to lift the limit in the coming weeks.
