Somali pirates seized a Spanish fishing boat in the Indian Ocean on Friday, Agence France-Presse reports.
The Alakrana, with multinational crew of 36, was hijacked in waters between Somalia and the Seychelles, said an official with the Kenya-based Seafarers Assistance Program.
The ship made a distress call to another Spanish vessel in the vicinity, which in turn was relayed to a frigate with the European Union anti-piracy task force, said a Spanish military official.
