Pentagon's IT Office On The Chopping Block

The Dept. of Defense is expected to close its top information technology directorate next March, reports Defense News, citing an internal Pentagon memo.
The Networks and Information Integration (NII) directorate is scheduled to cease operations on March 31, 2011.
The move is part of Defense Secretary Robert Gates' five-year effort to eliminate $101 billion in unnecessary organizations and costs and transfer those savings to weapons programs.
