About $27.7 billion in defense funding was allowed to expire in fiscal 2018, according to a new report from the Pentagon's inspector general cited by the Hill (Washington, D.C.). Because the Defense Dept. did not use the funds within the timeframe allotted by Congress, the department lost its ability to spend them.
