Peacekeeping Mission, Established In 1964, Gets Another 6 Months

The U.N. Security Council has approved another extension for the peacekeeping mission in Cyprus, reports the U.N. News Service.

The mandate has been extended until July 31, 2017. U.N. peacekeepers have been on the island since 1964 when the mission was begun to prevent additional fighting between the Greek and Turkish Cypriot communities.
