Peacekeeping Mandate Renewed For 6 Months

The U.N. Security Council has renewed and strengthened the mandate of the peacekeeping mission in the Ivory Coast (UNOCI) in an effort to boost its ability to consolidate stability, reports the U.N. News Service.
The mandate authorizes peacekeepers and supporting French forces to monitor armed groups in the West African nation, protect civilians, monitor the arms embargo, promote the peace process, protect human rights and support humanitarian assistance missions.
