Central African Republic

The Central African Republic has reached a peace agreement with 14 armed rebel groups, reports the U.N. News Service.

The agreement was reached on Saturday after 10 days of talks in Khartoum, the Sudanese capital.

The deal is the seventh since 2012, noted France 24.

A signing ceremony in Bangui was originally scheduled for Sunday but was delayed until Tuesday, reported Agence France-Presse.

Central African President Faustin-Archange Touadera is expected to attend the ceremony.

The details of the agreement have not been released. Talks reportedly focused on demobilization, potential roles for the fighters in government and amnesty for fighters who lay down their arms.

The draft agreement focuses on power-sharing and transitional justice, according to Sudanese negotiators cited by state media in Sudan.

Civil war erupted in the Central African Republic in 2013 when President Francois Bozize, a Christian, was deposed by mainly Muslim Seleka rebels.

More than a million people have been displaced as a result of the violence.
