Iran is holding parliamentary elections that are expected to boost the conservative leadership, reports Al Jazeera (Qatar).
On Friday, polls opened for voters to elect representatives to the country's 290-member Parliament and choose replacements for the seven deceased members of the Assembly of Experts, which appoints the supreme leader.
Supreme Leader Ali Hosseini Khamenei urged citizens to vote amid fears of a low turnout, which could dent the credibility of the vote.
