Lawmakers in Kazakhstan have refused to join the NATO-led coalition in Afghanistan, RIA Novosti reports.
The lower legislative house, the Majilis, ratified the agreement with NATO on May 18, but it was rejected by the upper house on June 9, pending a decision by a joint parliamentary session.
"Given the opinion of the Senate and the public, the Majilis will return the agreement to the government and it will have no legal effect because of the non-ratification by parliament,"...
