Liberia

U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is set to nominate a Pakistani general as the next military head of the U.N. Mission in Liberia, reports the U.N. News Service.

Lt. Gen. Sikander Afzal would replace Bangladeshi Lt. Gen. A.T.M. Zahirul Alam, whose term of service ended this week, said a U.N. spokeswoman.

During 1994 and 1995, Afzal commanded the quick-reaction force for the U.N. Operation in Somalia II (UNOSOM II).
