Open Helicopter Carrier Tender Readied For September

The state-controlled United Shipbuilding Corp. (USC) will announce a tender for the procurement of a helicopter carrier for the Russian navy in September, reports RIA Novosti.

Moscow has been in negotiations with France over the purchase of Mistral-class vessels, with one or two to be built in France and another two under license in Russia.

The move represents a change from Russia's previous plans to buy the Mistral without bidding.
