A former guerrilla fighter has apparently won East Timor's presidential runoff by a wide margin, according to prelimary results cited by Agence France-Presse.
Taur Matan Ruak, who fought against the Indonesian government's rule, gained 61 percent of the vote, according to the elections secretariat.
The results face a review by the court of appeals before they are officially announced.
