Okinawa Governor To Use Bureaucracy To Stop Work On U.S. Airbase

The governor of the Japanese island of Okinawa says he wants to suspend work on a controversial new U.S. airbase on the island, reports Reuters.

The government in Tokyo wants to move the U.S. Marine Corps Futenma base to another location on the island.

Many Okinawa residents who resent the U.S. military presence want the installation to be eliminated completely.
