Battelle has developed a new grappling hook designed to upgrade naval boarding capabilities, reports the Columbus, Ohio-based company.
The Tactical Air-Initiated Launch (TAIL) system propels a titanium grappling hook towing a Kevlar line for naval visit, board, search and seizure (VBSS) operations. The new system could also be used for fire rescue, life vest deployment or other missions.
Using compressed air to launch the hook, the TAIL can clear an obstacle up to 100 feet...
