The White House has placed eight Iranian officials on a financial blacklist for alleged human-rights violations, Ha'aretz (Israel) reports.
This is the first time the U.S. has used human-rights provisions in the latest sanctions act, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said.
She said most on the list have links to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the Basij militia, the Ministry of the Interior or the Ministry of Intelligence.
