At least 22 Burmese senior officials quit their military posts this week to be able to run as civilians in a general election later this year, reports the Deutsche Presse-Agentur.
Under a new constitution there will be 330 elected civilians and 110 elected military representatives. Resigned officers who are elected would not count against the military total.
