Observer Mission Gets Go-Ahead From Security Council

The Security Council has voted to expand a United Nations observer mission to Syria, reports the U.N. News Service.

The resolution calls for the formation of the U.N. Supervision Mission in Syria (UNSMIS) involving the initial deployment of up to 300 unarmed military observers and an appropriate civilian component.

There are eight observers already in Syria, with two more arriving Monday, reported CBC News.
