President Barack Obama has announced that 33,000 American troops will be withdrawn from Afghanistan by next summer, Agence France-Presse reports.
In a primetime speech Wednesday night, Obama said the drawdown will begin next month, with 10,000 troops returning home by the end of the year, the president said.
Another 23,000 troops will be out by next summer, he said.
The president praised the achievements of the 33,000-man surge he ordered 18 months ago.
