A senior navy commander has indicated that Iran has started to design its first nuclear submarine, reports the Jerusalem Post.
The program is in the initial stages, Rear Adm. Abbas Zamini told Iran's semi-official Fars news agency.
Iran has long maintained that its nuclear program is for civilian purposes only. Nuclear-powered submarines fit that definition, said Zamini, Iran's deputy head of the navy for technical affairs.
