The United States is strengthening the Marine presence in Okinawa, even as Washington is negotiating with Japan to reduce the long-term American military presence on the island, reports Stars & Stripes.
The current Marine units will be filled to maximum potential a rotation program will increase the number of Marines on Okinawa from an average of 15,700 to around 19,000, said a senior Pentagon official.
